Dominik Nitsche Wanted Super XL Main Event Success for His Fans

Over the weekend, the Super XL series wrapped up on 888poker. And, live on Twitch, 888poker ambassador Dominik Nitsche made history.

Nitsche not only finished third the richest 888poker tournament ever held, one that sported a $1.74 million prize pool, but he also ran hot on his home site in front of throngs of fans on Twitch.

"Of course I am feeling amazing," Nitsche said. "Any big score feels great, and this was one was made more special by the fact that it was live on Twitch on the official 888 Twitch channel. I wanted nothing more than to take it down for my fans."

Nitsche battled through a field of 1,291 players for his third place finish and $206,000, his largest online poker score to date. And according to PocketFives, he's almost at $4 million in career online tournament winnings after his $206,000 score.

"It was crazy," the German poker pro said. "Especially because last XL Series I already had a big score, so I came in really hoping I could do well. Doing it in the big Main Event this time is just amazing. It was the biggest tournament in 888poker history, so you could say the timing was just perfect."

The Main Event stretched for over half-a-day. And for Nitsche, it came on the heels of a win in the Mini Main Event during the last Super XL series for over $36,000. He also broadcasted that milestone on Twitch and has become somewhat of a fan favorite in the Twitch universe.

A deal was struck three-handed in this edition's Main Event. Then, Nitsche was dealt pocket fives and shoved all-in. 'GetluckyAK', who ultimately won the Super XL Main Event, re-raised all-in with A-8 and hit an eight on the flop and another on the river to send Nitsche to the rail in somewhat ironic fashion. Nitsche was yelling for a five the entire hand on Twitch, but the poker gods didn't oblige. Still, $206,000 was a healthy consolation prize.

Nitsche has been incredibly successful both online and offline. He has piled up almost $3 million at the World Series of Poker over the years and made a final table this year in a $5,000 No Limit Hold'em event. Nitsche has continued to take what he's learned in the online world and apply it to live play.

"The WSOP was okay," the three-time WSOP bracelet winner said. "I feel like I could have done even better too. Also, my results at EPT Barcelona were quite poor. Then again, in tournament poker, you can't control the results, so you have to keep playing. I am happy I got rewarded for my hard work this time. It's a great feeling and I hope to carry the heater on to 888 Live in London in a few weeks."

888 Live in London begins on October 13 and runs until the 16th. At a buy-in of £220, it's a pretty affordable tournament and will allow players to sit alongside greats of the game like Nitsche.

"888 Live London in a few weeks is next for me, of course," Nitsche said. "I can't wait and hope to be able to make another deep run."

Nitsche is 10th on the all-time live tournament money list for his home nation of Germany, according to the Hendon Mob. He has three WSOP bracelets, one LAPT title, and won the WPT Johannesburg four years ago. He's one of the top minds in the game, and one of the most enthusiastic ambassadors of 888poker.

"Realize that poker is a game of math, not of egos," Nitsche advised players who are climbing the poker ladder. "Understand the theoretical part of the game first. It's more important than the mind games people want to have going on at the tables. Just think about it: if you choose to ignore short-term history and just keep playing your strategy, you won't be making any big mistakes. Sometimes making a big read based on little evidence can be a crucial mistake."

Speaking of Germany, the European poker powerhouse has produced talent like Fedor Holz, Tobias Reinkemeier, and former WSOP Main Event winner Pius Heinz, all of whom join Nitsche in the top 10 on the nation's money list.

"We have had a big poker scene in Germany for years and most of us talk on Skype pretty much all the time," Nitsche said. "In fact, I had a lot of my fellow German players support me while I went on to chop the XL Series. Shout out to my good friend Manig Loeser, who literally fell asleep while I was yelling for river cards on Twitch."
