While we hope you’re busy battling it out against the likes of 888poker Ambassadors Dominik Nitsche, Chris Moorman, Kara Scott, and Sofia Lövgren, there’s always the chance you’ll find yourself with free time on your hands.
In such a situation, we’ve got you covered as below you’ll find five things to do off the felt while at this year’s 888Live London Festival.
Do the Tourist Stuff
London is chock-full of tourist attractions: Big Ben, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, British Museum, Hyde Park and Palace of Westminster. Add to that, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, The Shard, National Gallery, The London Zoo, Piccadilly Circus and Madam Tussauds London - and you're spoilt for choice.
The list really does go on and on. You could easily spend a whole afternoon at any of these attractions, but if you want to go quantity over quality, then the red, double-decker sightseeing tour buses are for you. They have stops all around town, and you can jump on and off as you see fit.
It’s affordable and the best way to take in the city, if you’re afraid of getting lost.
Get Your Comic On
Being a tourist can be fun, but so can indulging your inner nerd. If pop culture and comic books are your thing, the Forbidden Planet London Megastore at 179 Shaftesbury Ave is a must.
Forbidden Planet, which has several locations throughout the UK, is the world’s largest and best-known science fiction, fantasy and cult entertainment retailer. Imagine a warehouse full of action figures, books, comics, DVDs, graphic novels, toys, etc. and you wouldn’t be far off from what you’ll find at Forbidden Planet.
The megastore is located a good seven miles from Aspers, but you can get there in minutes by jumping on the Underground. It’s also not far from the British Museum and Big Ben, so you might as well sprinkle some comics in with your culture.
Do a Pub Crawl
Last month, The Telegraph released a list of 24 historic pubs in London. If it were us, we’d simply print it off and begin checking them off one by one, pint by pint.
However, if you’re a little more restrained, we suggest you pick out a few to visit. One we recommend is The Grenadier, which was built as an officer’s mess in 1720 and converted into a pub in 1818. It’s rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of a soldier who was murdered after [allegedly] cheating at cards. How fitting.
Likewise, Ye Olde Mitre Tavern is well worth checking out, provided you can find it. It’s the perfect place to experience a traditional London pub, particularly as it hasn’t pandered to modern trends (i.e. there are no televisions in the tavern).
Whether you’re looking for a big night out or to just swing by and grab some fish n’ chips, simply walk down the block in any direction, and chances are you’ll come across a pub.
Take in Watford vs Arsenal Football Match
On Saturday, October 14, Watford will host Arsenal in an EPL match at Vicarage Road, which is located on the Northwest outskirts of London. The stadium has been home to Watford since 1922 and can seat nearly 24,000 fans.
This meeting is a great chance for fans of the home team to watch Heurelho Gomes, Craig Cathcart, and Troy Denney in person. However, if you’re more of an Arsenal fan, then you don’t want to miss the opportunity to see Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Jack Wilshere, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and company in action.
Catch an NFL Game
If the other sort of football is more your style, the sad news is you’ll just miss the NFL International Series. However, the good news is that if you either come early or stay late, there are two games surrounding the 888Live London Festival.
The first will take place on Sunday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. ET/2:30 p.m. GMT as the New Orleans Saints take on the Miami Dolphins inside Wembley Stadium.
The other game will be held on Sunday, October 22 at 1 p.m. ET/6 p.m. GMT when the Arizona Cardinals square off against the Los Angeles Rams at Twickenham Stadium. Tickets are still available for both games.
We’re currently offering round-the-clock satellites for the 888Live London Festival with buy-ins starting at low as 1¢, so get started today.
