There’s a new game in town and it goes by the name Flopomania. That’s right, we at 888poker are putting a twist on traditional Texas hold’em by starting the action on the flop.

Here’s how it works. Skipping the preflop round of betting, the flop is immediately put out and the player left of the button, who is deemed “First Player to Act,” starts the action. Usually that’d be the player in the small blind, but in Flopomania there are no blinds. Instead, each player posts an equal ante called “the table ante” before the flop is put out.

After that, traditional Texas hold’em rules apply.

“There’s a movement to make poker fun again, much like John Hesp did during his run in the World Series of Poker Main Event,” said WSOP bracelet winner Chris Moorman. “888poker has taken it to heart with Flopomania, which puts a unique spin on the game. Players will no longer have to worry about getting outplayed preflop, but instead will jump straight into postflop action.”

Push-or-Fold Flopomania

In addition to Flopomania, a “Push or Fold” variation will be introduced. In this game, a preset betting amount will be determined and things progress in binary fashion. That means a player can either bet that amount when action is on them or call/fold/raise when facing a bet. Players can bet jut once during the course of a single hand in Push-or-Fold Flopomania.

For example, in a Flopomania table with a $1 ante and a $10 “Push” amount, players can either check or bet $10. Once they have chosen to bet, they are capped and no longer able to place additional bets during that hand.

“Push-or-fold flopomania is nothing like regular push or fold or any other game really” said three-time bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche. “The skill comes in evaluating your hand strength relative to your position. In regular no limit it's always expected that the preflop aggressor has the stronger range and is therefore most likely to bet. In flopomania everyone can have anything on the flop. Position is therefore key when making decisions as it's gonna make your decisions much easier. Playing out of position on the other hand is gonna be very tough and there will be a lot of factors you need to take into account.

Making Poker Fun Again

Flopomania follows in the footsteps of our recent non-traditional poker offerings such as BLAST Sit-n-Go’s, where four players compete for a randomly drawn prize pool worth up to 10,000 time the buy-in, and SNAP Poker, the fast-fold poker format designed to reduce waiting time as you’re dealt new cards the instant you fold.

“I’m excited to be part of a team that’s helping make poker fun again,” said 888poker Ambassador Sofia Lövgren. “888 not only continues to offer players a great poker experience both live and online, they strive to find new and innovative ways to grow the game. I think Flopomania will help do just that.”
