You might have noticed that over the past few weeks, we’ve made a couple of additions to our daily tournament schedule. Players are loving “The GREAT 8” and “The Starfish,” which complement our tournament offerings alongside events like the Mega Deep, The Whale, and the Sunday Lightning, just to name a few.

Introducing The GREAT 8

The $88 buy-in GREAT 8, held daily at 16:00 GMT, features a $20,000 guaranteed prize pool and replaced one of our $55 buy-in, $6,000 GTD tournaments. The tournament starts players with 8,888 in chips and is played 8-handed. Second Chance rebuys are available in case you lose all your chips within the registration period.

It’s been very successful so far, covering its $20K guarantee each week and at times flirting with a $50,000 prize pool. Oh, and on Sundays, we offer a special edition GREAT 8 by doubling the guarantee to $40,000.

Among those to win the GREAT 8 already are “AshTheSlave,” who outlasted a field of 243 players to win on October 19 for $5,913.

A few days later on October 22, the GREAT 8 drew 405 players who rebought 177 times, which created a $46,560 prize pool (easily surpassing the $30K GTD) paid out to the top 56 players.

Germany’s “SmilleThHero” and Russia’s “BillyBon8” squared off in heads-up play, and after 11 hours and 14 minutes, the Russian prevailed to take home $8,846.40. Amazingly, “BillyBon8” won the Baby Whale the same day for an additional $23K.

A week later on October 29, the GREAT 8 saw its guarantee upped from $30K to $40K, and players responded as 555 of them rebought 282 times to create a$66,960 prize pool.

At the final table, all eyes were on 888poker Ambassador and the world’s most decorated online tournament player Chris “888Moorman” Moorman. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to add a new title to his historic résumé as he was eliminated in seventh place for $1,674.

After 13 hours and 10 minutes, it was Raphael “iBustYa888” Wimmer who prevailed over Switzerland’s “stevachenko7” to win $12,655.44. It seems “8” is a lucky number for Wimmer, who at the beginning of the year finished sixth in the Super XL Event #8: Crazy 8 for $3,786.

The Starfish

We’ve added another buy-in level to our popular Fish ‘N’ Chips series. The $22 buy-in “The Starfish” features seven different daily variations (only three of them offer re-entries), such as the $2,500 GTD Pacific Starfish, most with 12-minute levels. So far it has proven to be a hit, with the first one ever run easily meeting its guarantee.

Here’s a look at the Starfish tournaments that’ve been added to our daily schedule are:

3:15 GMT - $1,500 Late Night Starfish

8:15 GMT - $2,500 Pacific Starfish

10:01 GMT - $1,500 Turbo Starfish

13:45 GMT - $2,500 Early Starfish

15:30 GMT - $5,000 Deepstack Starfish

19:00 GMT - $5,000 Starfish

20:45 GMT - $2,500 8-max Starfish

The Fish ‘N’ Chips series, which have premium GTDs on prize pool and offer buy-ins to fit every level, include The Goldfish, The Blowfish, The Catfish, The Swordfish, and now the Starfish.

Each offers regular speed, Turbo, and Super Turbo formats.

What Are Players Saying?

Comments on the forums have been very positive for both tournaments.

“Nice additions,” wrote 2MuchLuckWillKillU on TwoPlusTwo. “Those $22 $1.5-$2K GTD deepstacks were pretty much an instant skip, but def gonna be playing these tourneys.”

“Amazing additions once more, thank you,” wrote another user.

Meanwhile, “jambo227” echoed those sentiments: “Wow, nice new tourney. Good job. Need more new stuff in the schedule.”

We hope to keep making our tournament offering more attractive and fun for players, and would like to thank Ruth G. for creating an awesome branding for the new tournaments.
