Unplugging in Sin City can be challenging. However, the 888poker Ambassadors found ways to relax and recharge during their WSOP Main Event, day off.
Each ambassador chose uniquely different paths to recharge their batteries in Las Vegas. From retro activities and friendly table-game showdowns to mindful grocery shopping and 4th of July festivities, we discover how the team spent their precious day off.
In Episode 3 of the 888poker WSOP Docuseries, titled "How WSOP Main Event Contenders Recharge in Vegas," the five ambassadors enjoy the calm before the storm of Day 2.
Lucia Navarro: Psychological Power of the WSOP Break
For ambassador Lucia Navarro, the scheduled day off between Day 1 and Day 2 of the Main Event was a crucial point in the tournament schedule. After making it through the opening day, Lucia experienced the incredible physical and mental toll the event exacts on players.
"Having a day off in the WSOP is super important. It's a 9-day tournament length; we're playing for like 12 hours every day. You need to concentrate. It's really exhausting, and having one day off makes a lot of sense, and it makes a difference." — Lucia Navarro
While many poker players spend their days off obsessing over past hands or reviewing strategy boards, Lucia takes a practical, grounded approach. She spent part of her day taking care of basic needs, starting with a break from restaurant food. Addressing a frequent mistake, she stocked up on healthy groceries rather than relying on venue dining.

While walking through Las Vegas, Lucia reflected on the WSOP Main Event's exaggerated scale and its $10,000,000 top prize. Rather than fantasising about extravagant luxury purchases in the event of a run deep, she let her smarts and past experiences guide her perspective:
" The lifestyle that I have at the moment, I don't think it would change much. But I will have some fun time for sure." — Lucia Navarro
Ian Simpson: Retro Nostalgia at Pinball Hall of Fame
While Lucia chose quiet preparation and personal errands, Ian Simpson sought pure, retro entertainment. He headed off the Strip to one of Las Vegas's most famous hidden gems: the Pinball Hall of Fame.
This establishment houses hundreds of vintage pinball machines, classic mechanical pinball tables and retro games ranging from the 1950s to modern-day releases. The venue was the perfect sensory distraction for Ian to take a break from intense poker strategy.
Clutching a cup of quarters, Ian tested his aim on classic mechanical games and vintage pinball tables. For Ian, stepping away from the poker room and focusing on tactile, retro games provided the ideal mental reset

Ian's Takeaway on the Day Off:
"We have a precious day off in Las Vegas... More poker tomorrow... looking forward to getting home, but I also want to get the volume in before that flight home." — Ian Simpson
Nick vs Aaron: The 'Play for Your Dinner' Challenge
For ambassadors Aaron Barone and Nick Eastwood, relaxation meant friendly competition. The duo met up on iconic Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas to explore the inimitable street atmosphere before heading to In The Game for a high-stakes challenge.
The rules were straightforward: compete head-to-head across three classic table games, with the loser buying the winner dinner. What followed was a fierce, energetic but light-hearted battle, which Nick won!

Vivi Saliba: 4th of July Fireworks Festivities
For 888poker ambassador Vivi Saliba, the day off coincided with a special American holiday: the 4th of July. Vivi spent her day lounging by the pool during the hot afternoon, squeezing in a gym session, enjoying a delicious meal, and sleeping in late to recover from Day 1 play.
As night descended, Vivi took to the streets to join the crowds taking in the Independence Day celebrations and fireworks displays over the Strip.
Soaking up the cheerful, freewheeling holiday atmosphere helped Vivi detach, recover from the highs and lows of Day 1, and look ahead to Day 2.
"In previous years, I was playing on this day, so it's the first time for me, and I'm very excited. My performance on Day 1 wasn't quite what I expected... I performed well; I just ran not so good. But I hope on Day 2 things will change, and I can keep moving forward day by day." — Vivi Saliba

Storms Ahead: Ready and Raring to Go for Day 2
Whether it was finding retro entertainment off the Strip, engaging in friendly competition, stocking up on essentials, or watching fireworks illuminate the Las Vegas sky, the 888poker team proved that taking time to disconnect is just as vital as mastering poker strategy.
As Episode 3 of the 888poker WSOP Docuseries shows, refreshing the mind braces players to face the WSOP Main Event Day 2 with renewed focus, energy, and determination.
