Explanation of Sandbagging

“Sandbagging” is a colloquial term used to describe the act of slowpaying in poker.

It describes taking passive actions (such as checking or calling) with a strong hand in the hopes of generating action. The term “trapping” is for the most part used interchangeably with “slowplaying” and “sandbagging”.

Example of Sandbagging used in a sentence -> We made a big bluff into what we though was weakness, but it turned out that villain was completely sandbagging us.

How to Use Sandbagging as Part of Your Poker Strategy

Slowplaying certainly has its place in good poker strategy although the average recreational player employs slowplay lines more frequently than they should. For a full strategy discussion on slowplaying, check the glossary entry on Slowplaying.
